softies for mirabel...

I don't really have any experience sewing up softies but I do want to contribute to the softies for mirabel appeal, so I decided to keep it simple. I'm making a cushion girl.

Here's my work in progress

I'm stuck on the 'face'. Can anyone help me with the eyes...

Marcel also asked me to post something for him (get your own blog) since he's so proud of it. It's his portfolio which he shot at the Melbourne Museum. The one that's currently showing at First Site Gallery on Swanston street.

stitching night...

Last night I went to my first stitching night at Meet me at Mikes on Bridge Road. It was absolutely awesome, I loved it. I finally got to meet Lara & Shannon, aka the other members of the Melbourne Fabric Mafia and lots of other lovely, crafty bloggers. We had yummie cupcakes, funny stories, champagne (not for me though), coffee, tea, lollies and of course heaps of stitching fun.

Here's a pic of my finished project plus some goodies from Mikes.

Lara & Pip have some more pictures of the night.

I'll soon be shooting piccies with this big baby...once I figure out how it works or once I can get Marcel to do it (he'll do it, but I want it straight away..not next week). Can you see the difference between the two pictures in this post...my little camera is soooo hopeless at taking night time pics.

almost forgot...something exciting arrived in the mail today.

eco pow(d)er...

Well, it wasn't that long after all. I totally forgot that Marcel will be at the gallery most of his time.

Here's what I received in the mail today. I have been following all the eco comments on other blogs and even though we already try to live eco friendly...this just goes one step further...Our washing machine is super eco friendly and saves us heaps of water (I seriously don't understand the Australian government...they should ban top-loaders)
Anyways, we'll give this a shot and see how we go. I'm convinced it's good stuff.

The package also came with recycled envelopes and bio-degradable sticky tape, which is what I will be sending my products in from now on.

Here's where I bought it:

I'll be away for a bit (have been banned from the computer) as Marcel needs to finish his research and all other assessment stuff for uni (thank god only one more week to go). Make sure you visit First Site Gallery, 344 Swanston Street, Melbourne between 26 October and 3 November to see his work.

busy bee...

This week I finished sewing up a bag that I will give away to someone special. (this will be revealed in the next two weeks)

and here's something I'm reading plus a new project...sewing skirts...will have to get into that but I will keep you updated (me struggling). I'm really enjoying Bill Bryson's book 'down under', it teaches me a lot about Australian history and the different places he visits, and besides that it's also very funny.

quarter of a century...

Today is my birthday (I'm turning 25) and everything is just perfect...I mean...Look at the weather (for non-melburnians: It's 31 degrees outside). Just the perfect weather to go for a stroll along the beach, have a drink at one of the great Williamstown cafes and just absorb summer :) Back in Holland it's autumn now, which means that for 22 years I've had cold, rainy weather on my birthday. Having sunny, hot weather means a lot to me, it's just so exciting to suddenly have your birthday in another season. I have to add that I do miss my family on days like this. Mum called me early this morning and it's very strange not to be able to have cake with the family. I guess we'll have to save the cake until April, when me & Marcel are going to Holland.

Here's a pic of some presents my friends gave me on Friday. I also received a lot of clothes from H&M, that my mum sent to me, a gorgeous little dress from another friend and a book about fabric from Marcel's parents.

Sorry, I can't seem to upload pics at the moment, blogger has decided not to be nice to me on my birthday.

Ow, another thing I absolutely love about this day...my boyfriend is making me fresh juice :) gotta love that.

quiet...

I don't know why I'm posting because to be honest I don't really have much to say.
On Tuesday I went to the opening of Mikes 2, which was absolutely great. The shop looks fabulous! Got to meet more bloggers [even though I don't know any names].

Yesterday I had a quiet night in, did some sewing, which I will show you later because I'm not done yet. And tonight I'm taking it easy, playing around with some designs, looking forward to tomorrow...why?...

Firstly because I have a day off and secondly...I'm picking up new fabric. Yay!

Here's the result of me playing around with designs

Has anyone else used my fabric already? I'd looooove to see it!

We also got ourselves some veggies to grow on our balcony. We'll see how that goes...I'm hopeless with plants.

the waifs...

Yay, we went to see the waifs tonight...they're my favourite band on the planet...they were absolutely fantastic! And guess what I scored...didn't they say yellow is in fashion?

We also bought Abby Dobson's cd, called Rise up. She opened tonight's show and she's absolutely great.

And guess what came in the mail this morning...new fabric & a bag pattern
