sewing, working & a date...

it has been a while since my last post but that doesn't mean I haven't been busy. The busy-ness was mostly work though...a full week last week. I offered to work full-time as we had an information day for our 2nd semester courses on Thursday and the acceptance letters had to be sent out on Friday. So it wasn't just my normal Mon - Weds week and I have to say that it was a hard week...I'm just not really used to the full-time working week any more and I really love working part-time.

In between working and sleeping I've been sewing...

for the Melbourne Design Market

more cutting and sewing happening this week

Today I'm going on 'a date' with my lovely boyfriend :) I really wanted to go on a mini-trip but with today's petrol prices it's basically impossible so we'll be visiting the Immigration Museum in the city today. I'm very excited because I really love the history of immigrants (being one myself) and they also have an exhibition of Kimono's on.

For those who missed the last post...the sale is still on in my shop
The sale ends on Monday 30th of June 8pm Melbourne time.

baking and doodles...

some baking...

Zucchini and walnut cake (I made it just cuz the recipe sounded odd)

245 g walnuts
500 g zucchini (courgettes)
250 ml canola oil
330 g raw sugar
3 eggs
310 g self raising flour
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Preheat the oven to 170 C (325 F/Gas 3). Grease a 22 x 12 cm loaf tin and line the base and two long sides with a sheet of baking paper.

Roughly chop 185 g of the walnuts. Grate the zucchini, then put the zucchini in a large bowl with the oil, sugar, eggs and chopped walnuts and mix well. Stir in the flour, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Spoon the mixture into the tin and arrange the remaining walnuts on top. Bake for 1 hour 10 minutes, or until a skewer comes out clean when inserted into the centre of the cake.
Leave the tin for 20 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool.

Yummo! I had to bake mine for about 1 hour 20 just keep checking with the skewer.

3. What high school did you go to?
4. What is your favorite color?
5. Who is your celebrity crush?

back to school...

On Sunday I'll go to the second, and last, session of my textile design course and our teacher gave us homework. Here's what I've been working on...I'm still trying to get it perfectly lined up as the scan lines are not as accurate as the actual drawing, but I'm getting there.

highs & lows...

I'm feeling a bit like the way Lara felt a while ago...a bit down. I'm still not a 100% sure why but I think it's a mix of 'missing Holland after such a wonderful time', 'settling back in', 'getting used to cold cold Melbourne', 'Marcel being away most weekends', 'work frustrations', and for me this leads to creative frustration.

I don't want to make this blog the place where I dump my daily frustrations, but I feel the need to explain the reasons for my short and mostly visual blog updates from the last few weeks.

In my head I have a 100 things that I want to complete but I only have two hands and limited time. Number one will be to finish my quilt, which still only consists of cut pieces.

On another note, I really need to get back into blogging...and with that I mean commenting. I feel I have lost touch with a lot of you after coming back from my holiday (not that 100's of blog posts are easy to get through). So from now on I'm going to try really hard.

I do have one exciting thing to tell you...Yesterday I started my first lesson (of the two) in Textile Design. It was very interesting as they took me back to basics, back to before computers existed and everything was hand drawn on graph paper...trying to figure out how to make a repeat pattern. It was fun, although I looove the computer. Ctrl + Z just works better for me than a rubber ;)

Guess that's it then...I feel better already...thanks for 'listening'.

a Mattt bag...the present I gave my mum for mothers day. My auntie requested one too with this fabric and it just arrived in Holland, she's super happy with it.
